Coakley’s Restaurant and Pub has been located in New Cumberland for 33 years, when Richard and Sue Coakley purchased the New Cumberland Olde Towne Tavern.  Dick and Sue painstakingly renovated, upgraded and expanded the business over the years to its present day form.  When we bought the business ,  the restaurant seated 222 patrons at once, has a full bar, comprehensive menu and an 80 person banquet room.

Coakley’s was and is a full service restaurant and bar, set in a pub or tavern style.  Taking full advantage of the pub style and its Irish Heritage, Coakley’s has continually added video entertainment for sports enthusiasts.  As a result, Coakley’s has become well known as a sports pub and is the unofficial Pittsburgh Steelers Headquarters in the area.

We have always been a popular spot for great food.  Over the years, the menu has been invented and reinvented to reflect the changing tastes of diners and has become one of the premier restaurants in the area.  Coakley’s Has been recognized with many awards including Simply the Best Pub for the last five years straight and even again in 2009.

Coakley’s was purchased by Tim Hogg and Greg Bowers, in a limited partnership at the end of December 2008.  Plans were immediately put into place in order to expand the already wide appeal that Coakleys has enjoyed through the years.

A new HEALTHY Kids menu was added immediately.  As parents, Jana and Tim Hogg, were tired of the normal fare offered to kids.  Coakley’s has addressed that concern with more than just grilled cheese, chicken fingers and French fries.  Both Greg and Tim realized that the tastes of Harrisburg have changed and broadened over the years so they introduced an Irish Fare Section to the menu.

During the summer of 2009, the full menu was renovated to upgrade some of the items that weren’t selling as well to some new items.  The trend is more avante garde throughout the restaurant industry, and Coakley’s has delved into some of the trends.  Management has been very careful to preserve Coakley’s traditional flavor and atmosphere and all menu items receive the same painstaking scrutiny before earning their way onto the menu.

Along with the excellent food, Coakley’s has several different atmospheres in which to enjoy.  Because Coakley’s was added onto over the years, we have a wide variety of room sizes and shapes so each room can accommodate a different number of patrons as well as special events and banquets.  Between the Patio Room, Four Seasons Room, Green Room, Shamrock Room, Boardroom, Langley Iarn, the Game Room and the Main Dining Room, we can accommodate any number of people for any number of functions.

The future of Coakley’s holds many exciting events.  Coakley’s will open J. Thomas O’Malley, Tobacconist in September ’09.  J. Thomas O’Malley’s is Coakleys answer to the smoking ban in Pennsylvania and will feature the ability to smoke cigarettes and cigars in a high end sports bar environment, stocked with high end bourbons, scotches and of course Irish Whiskeys.  Also on the menu are Jimmy’s weekly beer choices as well as the best bottle selection in town.  J. Thomas O’Malley has all this with state of the art air cleaning and enough fresh air movement to clear even the smokiest air in minutes.  The main bar will then be non-smoking, bringing us into compliance as well as allowing for a more family friendly environment throughout Coakley’s.

Greg and Tim are both innovators and are constantly looking to improve service, selection and atmosphere.  Be on the lookout for outdoor dining at Coakley’s, our great new Banquet offerings, as well as a great new wine list.

Greg, borne of the restaurant industry at an early age, grew up with his parents’ restaurant, Chadwicks’, in Northumberland County.   Later, he spent the better part of thirty years in Corporate America in various restaurant management positions, always earning a reputation for quality in product offerings as well as service.  Tim, dropped out of corporate America in the mid 90’s to follow his dream of becoming an independent business owner in the property management/ownership field.  He brings expertise in all the mechanical items associated with the Coakley’s property as well as construction and development experience.

All of us at Coakley’s hope you enjoy the experience of dining at Coakley’s as much as we enjoy providing that experience.
